Jerrod Niemann tells this story about the song “Shinin’ On Me,” which was co-written by himself, Lee Brice, Rob Hatch and Lance Miller, came about very naturally while playing Aquapalooza with Brad Paisley in Austin, Texas.

“I looked out into this water and saw sixty thousand boats and like a hundred thousand drunk Texans and thought, ‘Man, now that’s a good day,’” Niemann shares. “So we just ended up going from bus to bus having a beer here, beer there with buddies and we all just ended up in the back of the bus just talking about how much fun we had. We had a couple guitars back there and before you knew it, we wrote it probably in an hour and a half.”

Once Niemann decided he was going to record it, he tweaked it here and there to make it his own. He didn’t have to do much convincing when he took it, along with the rest of his new songs, to his record label.

“It felt like the first single when we wrote it,” he recalls. “So it’s weird how the label would gravitate towards it too ‘cause I didn’t tell them my favorite, they just picked the tunes.”

This song about living in the moment was Jerrod Niemann’s fourth single release on his “Free The Music”cd,as well as his seventh overall.

The song’s visual was filmed at the East Nashville restaurant and music venue, Family Wash. “The video for ‘Shinin’ On Me’ is meant to show you that you don’t have to let the storms of life ruin your day,” Niemann explained.

LYRICS: Written by Jerrod Niemann, Lee Brice, Lance Miller and Rob Hatch
Life is taking turns, falling flat on your chin
Trying to fly with the birds
Love sure is blind
cause it dont see
It aint spent one night feelin sorry for me

There aint too many times I felt like a king
Sitting here with your dear makes me wanna sing

Today the sun is shinin on me
Sitting with my feet in the breeze
Aint sweating the little things
And who knows what tomorrow is gonna bring
But today, the sun, shinin on me

Lady love, forgets me every time
Im spending my days packin nickels and dimes
But the man in the moon, yeah hes alright
He must’ve flipped on the switch when he left last night
cause Im feeling alright, feelin alright

Today the sun is shinin on me
Sitting with my feet in the breeze
Aint sweating the little things
And who knows what tomorrow is gonna bring
But today, the sun, shinin on me

There aint too many times I felt like a king
Sitting here with you dear makes me wanna sing

Today the sun is shinin on me
Sitting with my feet in the breeze
Aint sweating the little things
And who knows what tomorrow is gonna bring
But today, the sun is shinin on me

Sitting with my feet in the breeze
Aint sweating the little things
And who knows what tomorrow is gonna bring
But today, the sun is shinin on, shining on, shining on me
