April 4.2014 The Story Behind The Academy of Country Music Song of The Year!

Hear about the story here!

First of all, congratulations to Shane McAnally for winning the Academy of Country Music’s Songwriter of the Year honors, in advance of Sunday night’s awards show. Shane is a co-writer and producer on the Grammy Award winning Kacey Musgraves cd “Same Trailer, Different Park.”

So, Sunday night more songwriters, who are mostly behind the scenes, will be recognized for being the best of the
best in the business. The Academy Of Country Music recognizes the songwriter when it awards the song of the year
honors. Single of the year honors will go to the artist.

Since this feature focuses on the story behind and on the songwriters, I wanted to shine a Star on these amazing
songwriters that are up for honors.

See my thoughts on who will win at the other side!

Song of the Year Nominees…•Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain) – Gary Allan
Songwriters: Gary Allan, Hillary Lindsey, Matthew Warren

•I Drive Your Truck – Lee Brice
Songwriters: Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, Jimmy Yeary

•Mama’s Broken Heart – Miranda Lambert
Songwriters: Brandy Clark, Shane McAnally, Kacey Musgraves

•Mine Would Be You – Blake Shelton
Songwriters: Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, Deric Ruttan

•Wagon Wheel – Darius Rucker Featuring Lady Antebellum
Songwriters: Bob Dylan, Ketch Secor

All of these are great songs and with the exception of “Cruise” missing from this list, it’s a good look at 2013. “Cruise
topped the Billboard Hot Country Singles charts for 25 consecutive weeks and for that reason alone, it should be nominated
for everything! But it’s not here, so I will work with what is!

The Academy of Country Music Awards are based out of Los Angeles. For that reason, they sometimes pick the not so obvious winners. And since Gary Allan is a California guy, he has a very good chance of winning this category.

But I think given the incredible popularity of “Wagon Wheel” and it’s recent Grammy win, I am picking Bob Dylan and Ketch Secor to win the song of the year honors.

Seriously, have you gone anywhere, baseball games, basketball games, other concerts, anywhere “Wagon Wheel” is played it
seems like everyone in the audience knows all of the words! And it doesn’t hurt that Roanoke,VA gets a shout-out in the song!

I will be the first to admit that I’m not always the best at predictions and when it comes to awards shows, anything can happen! So, when the show is over and I’m back here on Monday morning I will go over all of the winners with you!
Enjoy the show!
