“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned so as to have the life that is waiting for us.”
― Joseph Campbell
Last Thursday night I had the distinguished pleasure of speaking for the cancer Survivor’s of Giles County.
They held a dinner for these amazing warriors and I just felt blessed to be a part of it.
This is the fourth time I have spoken for these sweet folks and it blesses my heart more than they will ever
For my “speech” this time, I read to them from my personal journal that I kept while my mother was battling
cancer. I shared the difficult days and the funny moments and my shock when my mama passed. I knew it was
coming and I thought I was prepared in those final days of her life but I don’t think you can ever really
be prepared for the death of a loved one. My heart still aches and it has been 17 months since Mama went
home to be with our Savior.
I feel a strong sense of the community in Giles County. Everybody seems to pitch in and help or encourage
their family, friends and neighbors. And what they do with Relay is just amazing. It is one of the highest
fund raiser per -capita in the nation. Congratulations on that!
My sincere thanks to Hope Harrell,Kim Woodyard and Veronica Stump for inviting me back again this year. You
all truly are special to me and I am privileged to know you!
Here’s to your battle against cancer, may you win!
