Everyone is talking about yesterday’s earthquake. Did you feel it? Where were you when you felt it? Did you know what it was?
As for me, I was sick yesterday and was hanging out on my couch when the “event” happened. I’ve felt one other earthquake in my life ( I will talk about that further down in this note).
My first clue that something was about to happen was when Lucy the cat that lives with me started freaking out. I mean her hair and tail went straight up and she was in fright and flight mode!
I live kind of near the Roanoke airport so when I heard the roar next and then the shaking began, my first thought was that a plane had gone down. I literally felt it sweep across the living room floor and by the time it reached the kitchen and the glasses started rattling I realized what was going on. And still I sat on the couch! Talk about an earthquake plan? Yeah, I froze. Then I texted Jay Webb at WDBJ 7 and asked the obvious, “was that an earthquake?!”
It certainly made my “sick day” highlight tape!
So, back to the other earthquake – I was grew up in Cincinnati,Ohio and in the summer of 1974 there was an earthquake. In those days my brother Steve and I use to rough-house a lot. So when the quake happened my parents just thought that Steve and I were rockin’ the house! But when I walked out of my bedroom and he came running down from upstairs, the parents had that “ohhh” moment!
I had been napping, a Sunday afternoon ritual, and my bed shook! I remember waking up and having no clue what was happening. I turned the radio on shortly after all the chaos and Cincinnati DJ Mark Sebastian said, ” I don’t know why everyone is talking about this earthquake thing..I”m not going to talk about it..” and he started playing the Carole King song “I Feel The Earth Move Under My Feet”!
Three decades ago and I still remember that day. And I wont soon forget yesterday’s Roanoke quake either. These are the stories that make up our life!Share on Facebook
