February 9.2013 – This Life Would Kill Me

My mom passed away on January 25.2013 after a long and courageous battle against cancer. She had become known as “Mama Jaymes” in these parts since the late 90’s. She was my world. She lived with me both in Lynchburg and in Roanoke over the last decade and I had the opportunity and privilege to take her many places with me. Everyone was always so very kind to her everywhere we went and I have come to appreciate that so very much.

This week I have tried to pay tribute to my late mother through the Country Classics and the Warm and Fuzzies. Sometimes music and their lyrics can help heal a broken heart. And the right words at the right time can make all the difference in the world.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to share with you during this difficult time.

Before she passed away the song “If I Didn’t Have You” by Thompson Square came out. It is supposed to be a love song but I identified with the lyrics as the love I have for my mom and her love that sustained me. I may be wrong but it’s my opinion that no one can love us like our mother can. At least that was the case with me.

So, as this song continues to get airplay, each time I hear it or play it, I will be dedicating it to my mom, in my heart.

This is a very raw and vulnerable time for me and I am grateful for the expressions of thoughts and prayers. I know that she is finally out of pain and in a better place and I will
see her and dad again one day. In the meantime, I carry this broken heart.

I am very aware that this sort of thing happens every day. Every day, someone loses someone they love. Every day someone is fighting for their life. Every day someone is grieving while the world goes on around them. There will be people who don’t understand or cannot relate or have never suffered a loss. Good that your life hasn’t caused you any pain. But don’t dismiss sympathy or empathy. I beleive that we are on this planet to help each other, at least that is what gives meaning to my life.

My prayer today, is for all of us struggling to make it through the day, and by the grace of God we will. I don’t know any other way than by the grace of God.

Rest in peace, sweet Mama Jaymes.

Son lyrics to “If I Didn’t Have You” by Thompson Square
written by Keiffer Thompson, Shawna Thompson ,Jason Sellers and Paul Jenkins

Sometimes it feels like, I’m gonna break
Sometimes this world, gives more than I can take
Sometimes, sunshine gets lost in the rain
And it keeps pouring down
It just keeps coming down.

This life would kill me If I didn’t have you
I couldn’t live without you baby
I wouldn’t want to
If you didn’t love me so much
I’d never make it through
‘Cause this life would kill me
This life would kill me if I didn’t have you.

You are my heart, every breath I breathe
I’m safe in your arms, you rescue me.
When I’m weak, you’re strong
If you were gone I don’t know where I’d be
You were made for me
(You were made for me)

This life would kill me If I didn’t have you
I couldn’t live without you baby
I wouldn’t want to
If you didn’t love me so much
I’d never make it through
‘Cause this life would kill me
This life would kill me if I didn’t have you

If you didn’t love me so much
(If you didn’t love me so much)

This Life would kill me If I didn’t have you
(This life would kill me)

Couldn’t live without you baby
I wouldn’t want to
If you didn’t love me so much
I’d never make it through
‘Cause This life would kill me
This Life would kill me if I didn’t have you
